Student Life Organizations for Black Students

African Unity Club

Purpose: To increase cultural awareness on the NMSU campus and the surrounding area about the African people, African cultural, dance, food, clothing and African issues such as history, politics and health. To promote African unity and to encourage participation in events that would promote or increase awareness of African culture and issues.

Impact

Vision: The vision of the Impact Movement is to serve as a ministry that extends beyond the walls of conference auditoriums to capture the energy and vision of young people. A ministry with a commitment to the lordship of Jesus Christ lived out in the African-American experience. A ministry that extends into the non-collegiate United States community and the global community to provide leadership and motivation to serve Jesus Christ.

NMSU Gospel Ensemble

Purpose: To provide an educational opportunity to understand and appreciate the heritage of Blacks principally through the medium of Gospel music. Effective Fall 2005, the NMSU Music Department as agreed to offer college credit for participation in the Gospel Choir. (Note the name will be changed to NMSU Gospel Choir). Rehearsals are scheduled for Wednesday nights from 7pm-9pm in the Choral Room. The courses to register for are:

Music 161, Section 02 for Freshman and Sophomore students
Music 362, Section 02 for Junior, Senior and Graduate students

NSBE (National Society of Black Engineers)

Purpose: The National Society of Black Engineers is a student-run professional organization that specifically supports African-American technical majors. NSBE also supports all other majors and people of every race and creed. NSBE provides support for students, job fairs, internships, and extra-curricular activities.

Zeta Phi Beta

Purpose: Zeta's national and local programs include endowment of its National Educational Foundation, community outreach services, and support of multiple affiliate organizations. Zeta chapters and auxiliary troops have given many hours of voluntary service to educate the public, assist youth, provide scholarships, support organized charities and promote legislation for social and civic change. A non-profit organization, Zeta Phi Beta is incorporated in Washington D.C. and in the state of Illinois . The Sorority is supported by the dues and gifts of its members.
