FY11 Budget Information

Dear Campus Community,

New Mexico State University faces a challenging financial situation, following the close of our legislative session. The state’s revenue shortfall means fewer resources in many important areas, including higher education. Many supporters of our university, including our Regents, our legislative delegation and leaders, and our university legislative team did their part to ask for support of our university. All of these efforts helped our university, but with current revenue shortfalls, cuts are inevitable, particularly for our Las Cruces campus.

In the interest of keeping the campus community informed, this website will provide a “portal” for information on a range of budget-related issues that particularly affect the Las Cruces campus. Other units and campuses are encouraged to visit their budget offices for more details about actions that affect units that are budgeted outside of the Las Cruces campus.

Included on this website will be information about the budget reduction process, how units and the University Budget Committee will be involved, and timelines for completing action.

Our management of the current budget challenge must be guided by our long-term goals. NMSU is a comprehensive research university and it is critical that we remain mindful of our key obligations to our students, our mission, and the expectations of the communities we serve as we analyze our budget options. I welcome your thoughts on our process and on ways our university might best meet its obligations while managing a budget cut. An important component on this website, is a feedback form. I invite you to share your thoughts.

My thanks to everyone on campus, our elected officials and the many friends of NMSU who fought for funding on behalf of our students, faculty and staff. I look forward to your continued support as we work through the budget reduction process.

Sincerely,
Barbara Couture, President
