The CEP Counseling Psychology doctoral (Ph.D.)
program provides educational experiences
in the foundations of scientific psychology as applied within the discipline of counseling
psychology. The program is based on the scientist-practitioner model, stressing the
integration of theory, research, and practice. Knowledge and skill development focal areas
include appraisal, diagnosis, treatment planning, and counseling practice. All areas are
infused with awareness of and sensitivity to cultural diversity within society.
The knowledge base of counseling psychology is the foundation of the
program. This is
demonstrated in students' course work, practica, qualifying procedures, internship, and
doctoral dissertation. The goals of the program strongly reflect both the definition and
identity
of counseling psychology; accomplishing these program goals empowers students to find
success and fulfillment in the field.
The CEP Ph.D. program was accredited by the American
Psychological Association
(APA) in 1998 for a period of seven years, through the year 2005.
