Freshman Ambassador Program
The Freshman Ambassador Program at Chicano Programs is a leadership program that provides in-depth training to freshmen in areas that are relevant to their academic needs. These freshmen are then asked to provide information and personal outreach to other freshmen at NMSU.
This program is funded by an IDEA Grant provided by the Office of the Provost from the Minority Recruitment and Retention Fund.
Chicano Programs interviewed and a selected a small group of freshmen who showed potential as student leaders to provide support and general guidance to their peers. Studies show that students relate best to other students in college, especially during stressful times. This January, the freshman ambassadors attend a Student Leadership Seminar and meet other student leaders who are upperclassmen and have achieved advanced positions of leadership on campus.
