Dr. Laura Gutierrez Spencer - Director

Dr. Laura Gutierrez Spencer is a native nuevo mexicana.  She grew up in Silver City.   Dr. Spencer was a professor of Spanish Language, Latin American Literature and Chicano/a Literature before she took the position as director of Chicano Programs.

Tim Strasser - Program Coordinator

Born & raised in New Jersey, Mr. Strasser moved to El Paso and then Las Cruces while still in his teens.  Mr. Strasser has a  Master’s degree in Educational Management & Development.  He has worked with NMSU Athletics and Campus Activities before joining the staff of Chicano Programs. He also instructs two sections per semester of EMD 250 – Introduction to Education at Dona Ana Community College. 

He has two goofy but nice Boxer dogs and enjoys international travel and learning new things.

The Chicano Programs Coordinator position is a half-time position. Therefore Mr. Strasser is generally at Chicano Programs in the afternoons only.

Erica Enriquez - Administrative Secretary

Ms. Enriquez has been with NMSU for six years.  Before working at Chicano Programs, she was with Parking.  Ms. Enriquez is an aspiring artist.

Freshman Explorers Coordinator

Adan is the Freshman Explorers Coordinator.  He is currently pursuing a Masters in Public Administration.  He was born in Chihuahua Mexico, and came to the U.S. at the age of 3.  He graduated from high school in Deming and started at NMSU in 2006.  As a student at NMSU he has remained very active in student organizations and the Hispanic Council.  He served as the Vice-President, President, ASNMSU Rep, CDB Rep, UNIV 150 Peer Educator.  He has received two internships, in addition he served as Executive Director of Media Relations with ASNMSU.  Adan enjoys skiing and swimming and likes German chocolate carrot cake.
