K-12 OUTREACH

The K-12 outreach program at the Center for Latin American and Border Studies, New Mexico State University , supports the work of teachers in our border region and promotes the inclusion of Latin American and border themes in the K-12 curriculum.

CLABS offers educators in the Las Cruces area workshops on resources for teaching about Latin America and the border, cultural events for students, and online resources for use in the classroom. Our outreach program draws on the expertise and invaluable support of NMSU faculty to offer these services to the schools in our area of New Mexico .

Past events have included Tres Vidas , a music and theater educational program on the life of three Latin American women, attended by close to one thousand middle school and high schools students, and Weaving Tradition and Culture: A Hands-on Workshop for Art Teachers on Peruvian Weaving , with master weaver Alexander Gallardo Pinco, visiting from Ayacucho, Perú. (See our Past Events section for details.)
