John Irvine, Ed.D, Director
John is the Director of Counseling and Student Development and as such has responsibilities for the Veterans Programs, Wellness, Alcohol, & Violence Education (WAVE), Testing Services, Services for Students with Disability as well as Counseling. He is a licensed Psychologist and is the chairperson of the Institutional Review Board for Human Subject research at NMSU. |

Karen Schaefer, Ph.D., Training Coordinator Karen graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a Doctoral degree in Counseling Psychology in 1990. In addition to a strong interest in the training and supervision of trainees in counseling, I have clinical interests in working with individuals who have childhood histories of abuse (physical, emotional, sexual, neglect), other forms of trauma, grief and loss issues, offenders of abuse, animal abuse (offenders and victims who witnessed such abuse), and the provision of animal-assisted therapy. |

Pat McCoy, NCC, LPCC, Counselor
Pat has an existential approach to counseling. Her areas of training and interest include relationships and couple's counseling, sexual concerns including abuse and assault, eating disorders, conflict management, spiritual concerns, gender issues and differences, communication skills and leadership training/team-building using the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator. |

Corey Vas, Ph.D., Psychologist
Corey’s primary professional interests include biofeedback, hypnosis, LGBT issues, anxiety disorders and early childhood intervention. Much of his practice includes career planning, counselor training and supervision, and group therapy for men and for LGBT individuals. |

Erin Towner, Psy.D., Psychology Resident
Erin received her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Argosy University in Phoenix. She has a concentration in Sport-Exercise Psychology, and especially enjoys working with student-athletes to enhance their performance while balancing the demands of academic and social responsibilities. Working with LGBTQ clients, training future psychologists, and implementing suicide prevention efforts are also areas of strong interest. |

Emilia O'Neill, Counseling Psychologist
Dr Emilia O’Neill is a bilingual, bicultural psychologist from Mexico City. She is a counselor at the Counseling Center and the Outreach Coordinator for Counseling and Student Development. She is a certified Gestalt psychotherapist, and has a master’s in Organizational Development. She earned her PhD in Counselor Education from Texas A&M, Corpus Christi. Her areas of interest and training include mental and emotional health and development, group therapy, multicultural and gender issues, organizational development, leadership and coaching. She has developed numerous training and teaching programs in clinical, educational and organizational areas for master’s and doctoral students, as well as for top management in the US, Mexico and Latin America. |

Mike Waldo, Ph.D., Psychologist
Mike is currently a professor with the Counseling and Educational Psychology Department at New Mexico State University. His practice and research interests include design and evaluation of preventive interventions that employ group work to improve interpersonal relations. |

Eileen Winfree, LPC, Career Counselor Eileen attained her Master of Arts in Counseling and Educational Psychology in 1991. During her 14 years as a Career Counselor, she has helped many students find their career direction as well as their choice of major. In addition to teaching classes in Freshman Year Experience (UNIV 150) and Career Planning and Development (AS 102), she gives classroom presentations, participates in New Student Orientations, and acts as a liaison between the Career Exploration Center and other student services offices at NMSU. |

Elaine Parks, Intern
Elaine is a predoctoral intern from West Virginia University's Counseling Psychology Ph.D. program. Her primary area of interest is multiculturalism and how this applies to all areas of research, counseling and interaction. She is also interested in university retention, trauma, crisis intervention, coping skills and women's issues. At the center this year, Elaine will be providing individual, couples and group therapy in addition to biofeedback training.

Korenna Barto, Intern
Korenna Barto is a Doctoral Intern at the NMSU Counseling Center. She specializes in Women’s Issues and Human Sexuality and is fond of utilizing holistic & spiritual approaches to psychology and wellness. Korenna is looking forward to spending the 2007-2008 academic year here working with both individuals and couples. She will also be co-facilitating the Women’s Group and assisting WAVE with various outreach activities and peer education programs. |

L. Scott Rinker, M.A., Intern
I am a psychotherapist and a final-year counseling psychology PhD student from Texas A&M University. My interests are in domestic violence prevention, group psychotherapy, masculinity, and culture. I am extremely curious about the process of therapeutic change and what great therapists are “made of”. My style of therapy is collaborative, open, strengths focused, encouraging a client to see and try greater possibilities than those already experienced. |

Marion is a Doctoral Intern from Purdue University. She is excited about spending the 2007-2008 academic year working with students at the NMSU Counseling Center. Marion’s special interest includes romantic relationships, group psychotherapy, and campus outreach. Marion will be co-facilitating a Relationship Group and assisting the Employee Assistance Program with various activities. |
