THE NATIONAL CRIMINAL JUSTICE HONOR SOCIETY

Requirements for membership

Must have 9 credits in Criminal Justice completed. CJ GPA must be at least a 3.2. Overall GPA must also be at least a 3.2. 15 hours of community service is required per semester. Local ($25) and National ($40) fees must be paid.

Every year we attend the national ACJS conference. This year (2010), we went to San Diego California to represent for the APS chapter at New Mexico State University.

We placed first in the College Bowl, against our long time adversaries Nevada State-Reno. We also received first place for the Scrapbook competition that so many of our members contributed many hard-working hours on. Richard Prather had a great presentation during his student panel and received 2nd place in the graduate paper competition. Last but not least, we placed 6th in the crime scene investigation challenge.                                                                                             APS

Attending the conferences is a great opportunity to sit in and learn from different discussion boards and forums, as well as a great networking tool. Next year's conference (2011) will be held in Toronto, Canada. Due to the distance, commitments will need to be made earlier. Members who do not have a passport will need to apply for one and allow ample time for its processing. We are also planning on beginning fundraising for the trip over the summer.

Community Service

APS requires 15 hours of community service per semester. Our chapter has participated in events such as NMSU's "Keep State Great", Aggie Experience, Halloween Howl, high school career fairs, working at the Gospel Rescue Mission food kitchen, Gold Medal Gym Tae-Kwon-Do rape prevention seminars, food drives, clothing drives, and many more.

APS graduates                                                             APS

APS members who graduate with all of their fees paid and community service hours completed, as well as have attended at least 1 meeting per month, graduate with cords (for undergraduates) and medallions (for graduate) members. Stoles are given to outstanding graduating members as well as to our graduating officers.

Fundraising

Our APS members participate in many fundraisers throughout the school year in order to pay for our end of year banquets as well as to help fund the trips for the ACJS conference. Our fundraisers include yard sales, bake sales, and car washes.                                                                     APS
