This semester was one of the most exciting in the then short history of Delta Chi at NMSU. With a new house, members finally had the opportunity to call somewhere "home" for Delta Chi, as well as the opportunity to display trophies, composites, the charter and various other pieces of Delta Chi property in a common area directly related to the fraternity. Until this time, chapter property was spread out in Las Cruces, being stored in the homes of various members. As would be expected, the house hosted more than its share of social events during the semester. With a house off campus, the chapter had the opportunity to take advantage of having the ability to perform its own renovations, host events and gather as it saw fit. At the beginning of the chapter's residence on Plain St., most of the west wing of the house, or "downstairs," was not developed as an area to gather or live. For a short time during the semester, the floors were completely bare, consisting only of concrete and the remnants of glue that had been used to secure the now discarded carpet. Soon, the area was carpeted, and the bedroom adjacent to the back driveway was renovated to accommodate four members.

Recruitment for the semester went well, with the chapter pinning 19 men and creating the Lambda Class. A new "BB," Tom Mihalyi (Youngstown '70) was elected during this semester as well. The previous "BB," Jeff O'Brien (Arizona '86), had been a valuable asset to the chapter to this point, but, understandably, needed to step down to further pursue business interests and devote time to care for the twin girls his wife had given birth to a few months earlier.
