Habitat for Humanity International is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry. HFHI seeks to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness from the world, and to make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action.

Habitat invites people of all backgrounds, races and religions to build houses together in partnership with families in need.

 

Habitat has built more than 250,000 houses around the world, providing more than 1 million people in more than 3,000 communities with safe, decent, affordable shelter. HFHI was founded in 1976 by Millard Fuller along with his wife, Linda.

Text Box: National Philanthropies
Our national philanthropy is to benefit the speech and hearing impaired.
Delta Zeta partnerships with The Painted Turtle and The Starkey Hearing Foundation. 
	-The Painted Turtle is a year round camp for children with chronic or life threatening illnesses. It provides on site health care as well as providing all of the exciting activities a child could ask for.  
	-The Starkey Hearing Foundation is an international organization to promote hearing health awareness; to provide hearing aids, hearing aid batteries, and other hearing care products to needy persons; and to support and conduct research and education in hearing; and to fulfill such other charitable purposes.
Our national philanthropic project is the Sound Beginnings Program. Other donations go to Gallaudet University and the House Ear Institute.
-The Sound Beginnings Program is a program to raise awareness of the need for newborn hearing screening the importance of starting early intervention when a hearing loss is identified before six months of age. Delta Zetas have been involved with service to speech and hearing organizations for over five decades now and are certain to help many children and families through this effort. 
-Gallaudet University, located in Washington D.C. is the only four year liberal arts university accessible to hearing-impaired students. Donations to the Delta Zeta Foundation that are designated for Gallaudet University are used to fund Gallaudet Scholarships or other funding needs for the University, including endowment support for the library and performing arts.  Gallaudet University manages the funds donated, selects the scholarship recipients from the University, and administers the disbursement of scholarship funds.
-The House Ear Institute is a research center to improve the quality of life for the hearing and speech impaired.
