CHAMPION TEAM ROPER FROM CARLSBAD
RECEIVES RODEO SCHOLARSHIP
Etcheverry’s Consistency in Arena Paying Off
LAS CRUCES -- New Mexico Secretary of Agriculture, Frank A. DuBois, has selected John Pete Etcheverry, a junior from Carlsbad, New Mexico, as a recipient of the DuBois Rodeo Scholarship for the academic year 2002-2003. “John Pete had an exceptional year in 2001-2002. He’s an outstanding student athlete and I couldn’t be more honored than to award him with a scholarship for this upcoming year,” says Secretary DuBois.
“It’s great that I’m receiving this scholarship. I appreciate Frank DuBois and all those who support the NMSU Rodeo Team,” says Etcheverry.
Etcheverry was the Grand Canyon Region Champion Team Roping Header last season, and also finished fourth in the calf roping event. He also qualified to participate in the Collegiate National Finals Rodeo in Casper, Wyoming, this last June.
While attending Carlsbad High School, Etcheverry was a three-time calf roping and team roping qualifier of the National High School Finals Rodeo (NHSFR) from 1998 to 2000. He was also named the “Male Rodeo Athlete with the Highest Grade Point Average” at the NHSFR in 2000.
Etcheverry’s parents are John and Brenda Etcheverry of Carlsbad, New Mexico. He has a younger brother named Tommy.
