Las Cruces, NM -- New Mexico Secretary of Agriculture, Frank A. DuBois, has selected James Fletcher Green, a freshman from Socorro, New Mexico, as a recipient of the DuBois Rodeo Scholarship for the academic school year 2001-2002. "James is my first high school recruit for the scholarship. He's an outstanding scholar, a promising athlete, and we're pleased to have him at NMSU," says Secretary DuBois. Green says, "I'm proud to receive the scholarship and will do my best to represent the NMSU Rodeo Team."

Green graduated from Socorro High School with a grade-point average of 3.5. He was a member of the National Honor Society, an All-American Scholar, and was selected as Who's Who Among American High School Students. Additionally, Green was an active member of the Tumble Weed 4-H Club and Future Farmers of America.

Green was also a member of the New Mexico High School Rodeo Association and named "Wrangler All-Star" in 2001. During that same year, he qualified as a state finalist in bareback riding, bull riding, and team roping. He was named the New Mexico High School Rodeo Association's "All-Around Cowboy" at Santa Fe, Bosque Farms, and Alamogordo rodeos for the 2000-2001 academic school year. Furthermore, Green ranked 12th in the nation in bull riding in 2000. He has won seven saddles and over 100 buckles, as well as many other awards and trophies, since 1991.

Green's parents are Jimmy and Sidney Green. He has a 15-year-old brother named Jared. He is currently majoring in Wildlife Science.
