FRESHMAN FROM MORIARTY AWARDED RODEO SCHOLARSHIP
Wimberly to Compete in Calf Roping, Team Roping, and Steer Wrestling
LAS CRUCES, NM New Mexico Secretary of Agriculture, Frank A. DuBois, has selected Cooper Wimberly, a freshman from Moriarty, New Mexico, as a recipient of the DuBois Rodeo
Scholarship for the academic year 2002-2003. “Cooper has a good list of rodeo and academic achievements from high school. I believe he has the experience and desire to be part of a winning team,” said Secretary DuBois.
Wimberly said, “With the scholarship, I believe I’ll be able to help the NMSU Rodeo Team through my hard work, dedication, and teamwork abilities.”
In high school, Wimberly was a National High School Rodeo Finals (NHSFR) qualifier in team roping four years in a row from 1999-2002. He was also a qualifier in steer wrestling for the NHSFR in 2002. Wimberly was selected as “Who’s Who Among High School Students in 2002.
Wimberly’s parents are David and Peggy Wimberly from Moriarty. He has an older brother named Shane.
