NMSU RODEO ATHLETES PLACE HIGH IN REGIONAL STANDINGS
Thomas, Snure, and Etcheverry in First Place
LAS CRUCES, NEW MEXICO Three New Mexico State University (NMSU) rodeo athletes are ranked first in their events at the completion of the Grand Canyon Region fall season. They include Aaron James Thomas, team roping heeler and sophomore from La Mesa, New Mexico; Bill W. Snure, calf roper and junior from Rodeo, New Mexico, and John Pete Etcheverry, team roping header and sophomore from Carlsbad, New Mexico.
Other top performers with good regional standings include Koell Elaine Wright, a junior from Moriarty, New Mexico; Andrew E. Lake, a senior from Waterflow, New Mexico; and
James Fletcher Green, a sophomore from Socorro, New Mexico. Wright ranked second in breakaway roping and third in barrel racing. Lake ranked third in bull riding and Green took fourth in the bull riding event. Bill Snure also ranked third as team roping header.
The NMSU Men’s Team ranked second in the regional standings and the Women’s Team landed in fourth. Snure ranked third and Etcheverry ranked fourth in “Men’s All-around.” Wright ranked third in “Women’s All-Around.”
In the national standings, Thomas is holding down first as a team roping heeler. Ranked in second are Snure in calf roping and Etcheverry as team roping header. Snure ranks sixth as team roping header. This places the NMSU Men’s Team in fourth in the nation and Snure in seventh in the “Men’s All-around” category. Wright ranks fourth in breakaway roping. She ranks sixth in barrel racing and in the “Women’s All-around” category.
