NMSU RIDER WINS SECOND COMPETITION IN A ROW
Leads the Region in Bareback Riding
Las Cruces - New Mexico State University (NMSU) bareback rider Bryce Duggar, a junior from Dell City, placed first in the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association (NIRA) competition on Saturday, March 24, 2001, in Farmington, New Mexico. This is the second win in a row for Duggar, who remains in first place in the regional standings. "This rodeo athlete is quite talented and a key player for New Mexico State University team," says Agriculture Secretary Frank A. DuBois.
Jarret Corn, a sophomore from Roswell, tied for first in the first go-round in calf roping and third in the average with a total time of 26.6 seconds. Joe Kyle Reid, a senior from Animas, placed second in the first go-round with a time of 11.1 seconds. John Pete Etcheverry, a freshman, placed fourth in the first go-round with a time of 13.6 seconds. Koell Wright, a junior from Moriarty, placed second in the first go-round of the in the breakaway calf roping with a time of 3.7 seconds.
In the regional standings, the mens team currently stands in third place and the womens team is in fourth place. The next NIRA competition will be held in Albuquerque at the University of New Mexico (UNM) on April 13-14, 2001. For information on this competition, call Flavian Tabaha at (505) 843-9422.
