Some Heritage Center Projects in New Mexico

The New Mexico Folklife Festival: A four-day festival featuring more than 100 participants, from Hispanic, Native American, and Anglo- and African-American traditions.

The Zuni Storytelling Project: To strengthen the story-telling tradition, the Pueblo engaged the Heritage Center to transform original field recordings of traditional storytellers from the Pueblo of Zuni into Zuni-language radio programs for broadcast over KSHI.

The Tortugas Historical Photograph Exhibit: For this project, documentary and oral history were combined with archival and family photographs to create a permanent museum-quality exhibition.

The Way We Were: Everyday Life in Southern New Mexico On the Eve of Statehood: To celebrate the 75th anniversary of statehood, the Heritage Center worked with the staff of the NMSU Museum to develop a museum exhibit of artifacts, documents, photographs and narrative text.

The Dona Ana Project: We combined the efforts of students in several classes to document this oldest southern New Mexico community through oral history and folklife interviews, historical photographs, archival research and archeology.
