BORDER TEACHER CORPS

New Mexico State University's Border Teacher Corps Summer Institute provides education professionals the opportunity to learn about Mexican culture, the Spanish language, educational topics, and border issues through experiential, service-oriented, and intercultural professional development activities.

The program is one month in duration with a two-week online portion at the beginning that is done from the participant’s home. The second two weeks are spent on site at locations in Mexico, New Mexico and Texas. This year's Border Teach Corps experience will run from July 6, 2004 through Friday, July 30, 2004.

PROGRAM EXPENSES



The Santa Teresa, NM - San Jerónimo, Chihuahua border crossing

The program’s cost is $2,522 and includes educational materials, room and board. Participants will receive 6 NMSU credits and a certificate of program completion. Participants will pay their own transportation to and from Las Cruces, New Mexico.

At NMSU, students will be housed in dorm rooms with individual occupancy. Home stays and the trip to the Chihuahua interior may or may not include a private room. Three meals a day will be provided while at NMSU and in Texas and Mexico. However, there will be times when participants can elect to eat on their own at their own expense.
