FROM THE EDITOR'S DESK . . .

On March 8, another International Women's Day rolls around but things don't look much brighter for the women of Ciudad Juárez. Victims' families and the families of the disappeared still have no center of their own to go to for support. The investigations into their daughters' and sisters' are plagued with problems that FNS has been following faithfully for years now. Casa Amiga, the city's only rape and abuse crisis center, has lost its funding from the PRI's interim mayor.

This month's articles look at issues related to the raped and murdered women of the city. At the beginning of February, Mario César Escobedo Anaya, the lawyer for one of the men arrested in the state's investigation of the crimes against women, was killed under suspicious circumstances during or after a car chase by state police officers. At about the same time, the Cd. Juárez press revealed that the state's key witness in eleven of the serial killing cases never actually confirmed that Víctor García Uribe was the person she saw near the field where eight bodies were found in Cd. Juárez. A final article looks at problems and issues facing Casa Amiga.

As always, I hope you enjoy the articles and please know that I appreciate your feedback.
