Once again we encourage our alumni to help the department by considering a contribution to one or more of the following funds, all of which are administered by the university for the benefit of our department.
- Clemons Field Scholarship (endowed)
- John Kalesky Memorial Scholarship (endowed)
- Geological Sciences General Scholarship Fund
- Geological Sciences Gift Fund
- Seager Fund For Field-Based Research (endowed)
A brief description of each of these funds is given below along with information on how to submit your donation.
Seager Fund For Field-Based Research
This is a new endowed fund set up by the department in honor of Dr. Seager's outstanding career as a teacher of field geology. This scholarship is for geology students who are conducting field-based research as part of an undergraduate research project or M.S. thesis project.
Clemons Field Scholarship
This scholarship was established by Dr. Russell and Mrs. Frankie Clemons for graduate geology students involved in field mapping theses.
John Kalesky Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship was established in honor of John Kalesky who received his M.S. degree from our department in 1988, and died shortly thereafter. Funds from this scholarship are awarded to graduate students based on financial need and academic merit.
Geological Sciences General Scholarship Fund
The General Scholarship fund was established to receive scholarship donations from individuals or organizations. In addition to the General Scholarship Fund, the department administers at least seven other scholarship funds established for the benefit of undergraduate geology majors.
Geological Sciences Gift Fund
This general fund was established to provide operating funds for the department over that received from the state of New Mexico and grants from outside funding agencies. Money from this fund is used to buy supplies for our teaching laboratories, to bring in speakers, purchase supplies and equipment for the department, etc. In today’s environment of shrinking financial resources, money from this fund is becoming increasingly important to the efficient operation of our department.
Donations to any of the above funds and scholarships can be sent directly to the department.
