Dr. William V. Flores joined New Mexico State
University on August 6, 2001 as Provost and Chief Academic Officer. Before coming to New Mexico Sate University, he taught at several
educational institutions including California State University in Fresno and in Hayward, Santa Clara University, and
Stanford University where he also served as Associate Director of the Inter-University Program for Latino Research.
he comes to NMSU from Cal State-Northridge where he served as Dean of the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences.
In these positions, he administered, taught, and coordinated faculty teaching assignments; administered, developed,
and reviewed budgets; and revitalized college and university development efforts in the areas of research, alumni
and university advancement. In addition, he has extensive service in community based agencies, and served as Acting
Executive Director and Associate Director at Gardner Community Health Center in San Jose.
Dr. Flores was born in San Diego, California and raised in Lemon Grove, California. After graduating from Mount
Miguel High School in Spring Valley, he attended the University of California in Los Angeles where he garduated with
a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science in 1970. He received his Master of Arts in Political Science from Stanford
University in 1971 and his PhD in 1987 also from Stanford University in Social Theory and Public Policy. He has two
children, Antonio who graduated from Standford, and Diana who currently attends the University of California at
Berkley.
