September 21, 2000, 6:30pm Present: Veronica Frias - President Heather Whitely - Vice-President Angelica Rodriguez - Treasurer Diedra Dawsey-Brogan - Community Service Trenae Brown - Campus Awareness Carrie Campbell - Publicity Nikki Harsany - Social Valerie Reyes - Newsletter Kallie Dixon - Counsel Representative Tawny Aguirre - Chapter Advisor I. Guest Speakers Two prospective guest speakers include a representative from the McNair Program and the Honors Program. The tentative dates are Oct. 5 and Oct. 19, respectively. We will be inviting Honorary members to be guest speakers. The list of Honorary Members will be provided by Nikki to Veronica. II. Campus Awareness There will be a table set up on September 29, 2000 in Corbett center. Sign up sheet passed around. May meet on Sunday to put the display together and a sign up sheet was passed around. III. Publicity Veronica will give notice to Carrie as to when and who the next guest speakers are so that she can post them up on the flyers. Everyone is to pick up flyers in Tawny's office when they are ready. Carrie will try to put the meeting announcements in two sections of the Round Up, Announcements and Aggie Briefs. IV. Social Honorary Breakfast will be on September 26, 2000 at 8am in BC 143, Dean's Conference Rm. Burritos will be donated by Roberto's restaurant and there will be coffee and juice. We've had 5 people RSVP. Some Honorary Members will be unable to attend, but would like to know about other events. Sophomore Recognition are tentatively scheduled for Oct. 5, 2000 or Oct. 19, 2000. The original date Oct. 12, competes with Homecoming Week. The event will consist of information on Golden Key, pizzas. sodas, guest speakers and door prizes. Tawny will start getting Sophomore names to invite to the Sophomore Recognition. V. Community Service We will be participating in a graffiti clean up for the city of Las Cruces. It is also a fundraiser. It will raise about $300 for our chapter. The dates for the community service are Oct 21, Nov 4 and Nov18, all of which are Saturdays. We have to attend all dates in order to receive the money. VI. Newsletter The newsletter will be ready by the next meeting(Oct 5). Everyone who has an event planned must submit a brief article on it to Valerie via email. VII. Treasury We have $11122.35 in our Bank of America Account and $2456.31 in our NMSU Account. This may be incorrect. Treasurer will investigate. VIII. Council Reps. The council meeting covered the purpose of the meetings and having epresentatives at each meeting. There were a lot of up and coming political events discussed. If anyone is interested, contact Heather at hwhitely@einsteinium.nmsu.edu Announcements : In an attempt to increase the attendance at the meetings, we will be updating our listserve with Computing and Networking. This way, everyone will be receiving information about our meetings and up and coming events. Borad meeting adjourned at 7pm, General meeting started at 715pm with guest speaker, Terry Cook.
