What is Model United Nations?
Model United Nations (MUN) is an academic simulation of the United Nations that aims to educate participants about effective communication and multilateral diplomacy. The program is an opportunity for academic growth and skill development. As many as 400,000 collegiate students annually take part in MUN conferences around the world. Students represent the national policy positions of the 192 Member States of the United Nations, serving on committees such as the General Assembly and Security Council. There they write and advance policy papers and resolutions on key international issues such as security, peace, conflict, development, and environmental sustainability.
NMSU's Model UN Program
NMSU’s Model United Nations program builds leadership, key skills, and awareness of global politics for all undergraduate and graduate students. Our mission includes the following goals:
-
Enhance student awareness of international affairs
-
Build key research, writing, and speaking skills
-
Offer a unique “hands-on” experience in international diplomacy
-
Represent NMSU in an international setting
The program is open to all students, regardless of their field of study. It is supported by academic coursework offered by the Department of Government. Our program is the only one of its kind in New Mexico and West Texas.
