Pre-Law Studies

While law schools do not require any specific undergraduate majors, many prelaw students choose to major in government  because it offers several classes in the courts and public law.  Pre-law courses in the Government Department may be found in the -90 series. They include:
GOVT 391 Constitutional Law
GOVT 392 Civil Liberties
GOVT 394 Judicial Process
GOVT 395 Law and Society
GOVT 396 International Law
GOVT 397 Law and Sex
GOVT 399 New Mexico Law

Students interested in law school and law-related careers also are encouraged to consider the Law and Society Supplementary major, an interdisciplinary program which is housed in the Government Department.

• Law & Society Supplemental Major
  This 24 credit interdisciplinary program has been designed specifically for undergraduates who plan to attend law school or pursue law-related careers.

• Law School Admissions Council
  For information on law schools, legal careers, and the Law School Admissions Test. This academic year, the LSAT will be offered Oct. 4, Dec. 6 and Feb. 7. The Government Department and Law and Society faculty regularly offer a one-credit prep course during the summer.
