Associate Professor of History.

Research Interests:  Late Imperial period Chinese cultural and intellectual history, especially the Ming dynasty (1368-1644). Currently writing a biography of Yang Jisheng (1516-1555), following his career, his arrest and execution, and his posthumous career as a Confucian martyr.

Contemporary Chinese political culture, especially the revival of Confucian ritualism in the post-communist era.
