Welcome to the Department of Health Science.

Our department's mission is "to preserve and enhance the health of the public and prevent illness and injury through education, research and service programs." The Department of Health Science was established in 1979.

Today's society demands timely attention to complex public health issues. Now more than ever, public health professionals recognize that solutions to society's problems involve the promotion of optimal health and the prevention of disease and disability. Community health education is a direct route to preventing many public health problems.

The Department of Health Science at NMSU prepares health and human service professionals to plan, implement, and evaluate community health education programs in public or private sectors.
