Finding A Place To Work Or To Meet Information and Scheduling for HSS 214 and HSS 314

Photos of reading or 'seminar' rooms in HSS...

These rooms hold up to eight (8) people comfortably and have built-in whiteboards with pinboard and pad. HSS 214 has a spectacular view of the eastern portion of the NMSU campus, "A" Mountain and the Organ mountains. There are no shades in HSS 214 so early morning presentations get the full force of the rising sun. HSS 314 has a more intimate feel and has Venetian blinds which can be adjusted for minimal light interruptions from outside.

While there are Ethernet ports in both rooms and wireless accessibility, there is no other built-in technology for presentations in these rooms. Presenters and/or guests will need to have equipment provided as required (hosts should make appropriate inquiries, with adequate lead time, to the MRC or other appropriate parties. Keys for non-recurring events may be retrieved from the MRC after a confirmed reservation has been made, by NMSU/CHSS faculty or staff via the HSS Room Scheduling Form). Students wishing to use these rooms for club or organizational meetings can do so after club/organizational sponsors have verified their contact status.

Scheduling A Room

    HSS Room Schedules
    • Click on the "question mark" next to the link above for instructions. The help file is provided in the Adobe Acrobat PDF format.
    • The above links provides an up-to-the-minute view but only to read/view. If you wish to reserve a room, please note the following:
      • Requests for HSS 214 and 314 are processed by the Media & Resource Center using our standard form. After completing the form, a staff member will manually place it on the web-based calendar and will then send a confirmation note. This is not an automated process; the listing of your request that is shown when you "submit" your request is just that: a listing, not an actual confirmation.
      • Additional notes and caveats are presented at the top of the Reservation Form page.
      • To request the use of the "Health Science Conference Rm. HSS 318A", please click to send an email to the Department of Health Science.
      • To request the use of the "Dean's Conference Room" (HSS 310J), the First Floor Memorial Tower Lounge, or the Memorial Tower Room 3rd Floor, please click to send an email to the Dean's Office.

Oral Examination Presentation

Alert! Oral Examination preparations!

If you are an HSS Masters (MSN, MPH or MSW) student who is completing their degree and will be participating in an oral examination or presentation as part of the degree completion (such as a thesis defense), you may contact the Media & Resource Center via email after conferring with your committee chair to find out what arrangements must be made to secure one of these rooms and to find out what arrangements must be made gain access to tech equipment. At the very least, complete the HSS Room Reservation Form and include your committee chair person in the "Other" field. A copy of the partially completed "Masters Candidacy Form" is required to fully confirm any room reservation. Please do not wait to the last minute or assume that advisors and/or committee chairs will complete such arrangements on your behalf.

Equipment (such as TV/VCR or laptop computer/projector) reservation is currently only done on an email or in-person basis. If you are reserving HSS 214 or HSS 314, note that there is no built-in presentation technology other than a whiteboard. If you have not been cleared (via a specific oral-exam-prep equipment training session) to sign-out and set-up such technology through the MRC, please contact your committee chair so that they may secure any required technology on your behalf (students who have not been previously trained on project usage or have demonstrated usage proficiency must be willing to complete a session in the MRC prior to taking multimedia projectors away from the MRC).

If you wish for a space with equipment already in place, please consider the smaller MRC Meeting Rooms.

If you need an even larger room, please inquire about the classroom spaces. NMSU faculty and staff may request these directly; students are expected to have a faculty or staff sponsor for their classroom activities. Students may request/use the smaller MRC Meeting Rooms directly; a faculty or staff sponsor is not required.
