How to Apply Online
  • Once you’ve been admitted to NMSU, you’re able to utilize the Apply Online system.

  • From the housing homepage, www.nmsu.edu/~housing, select Apply for Housing, located under the Future Residents heading.

  • If you’re not familiar with the different housing and dining options available, you might want to explore this page and its various links first.  “Students Entering as Freshman” will provide you with residence hall descriptions, floor plans and pictures.  “Students Entering as Transfers” will provide the same information for our apartment communities.

How to Apply Online (con’t)
  • The Applications page also provides links to additional information as well as general instructions. Take a few minutes to read this page before you begin the application process.

  • Two important items to note at this point:
  • You are expected to make payment at the end of the online application process.  Be sure you have a credit card available.
  • If you are currently under the age of 18, a parent signature is required.  As such, please print and return the paper application packet.

  • When you’re ready, click on Apply Online.
3
Logging In
  • Use your NMSU username and password to login.  If you haven’t yet activated your account, click on the Activate your account now link.

  • When you’re ready, enter your username and password, then click Login.
4
Application Selection
  • Once logged in, your name and student ID number will appear at the top of the screen.

  • At the bottom of this page, you’re asked to select an application type and time frame.  The dropdown menu gives you several options: Freshman Housing and Dining (open to anyone who wants both services), Housing only (open to continuing or transfer students only), Dining only, or Family Housing.  Select the option which best meets your needs.

  • Make your selection, then click Next>>.
5
Student Housing License Agreement
  • The Student Housing License Agreement details the terms and conditions of your stay in campus housing.  It’s a lengthy document but please take the time to read through it!

  • Student housing agreements run the full academic year. That means you agree to stay in campus housing for both the fall and spring semesters.

  • You may wish to print a copy of this document for your files.

  • Scroll down the page as you read the agreement.  When you’re ready, click on the “I Agree” box and then click Next>>.

  • If you’re completing an application for both housing and dining, your next page will be the Dining Services Agreement.  The same information applies.  Please read the document thoroughly before clicking on the “I Agree” box.  The dining agreement runs the full academic year as well.

Personal Preferences
  • The Personal Preferences page allows us to collect some specific information about you.  Answer the question and/or fill in the requested information for each item.

  • Please note that we make every effort to accommodate your apartment or room type preference but are not always able to do so.   If your preference is unavailable, we will assign you to the next most acceptable space.
  • When you’ve completed this page, click Continue>>.
7
Living Preferences
  • The Living Preferences page allows you to select the facilities you’re interested in living in.  You can enter up to four different selections; please provide at least three.  Assignments are made based on the date of application.  The earlier you apply, the more likely we’ll be able to help with an assignment into your first or second preference.
  • Once your application has been processed, you can update your Living Preferences using your MyHousing account.  More information on MyHousing can be found at the end of this tutorial.

  • When you’ve completed this page, click Next>>.

Final Submission
  • This is the last page of the application.  Once you click Submit Application, you are an active applicant with campus housing.  Submitting the application invokes the housing (and dining if applicable) agreement(s) and applies charges to your NMSU student account.  The next screen will take you into NMSU’s web payment portal, allowing you to enter credit card information to cover the charges.  If you don’t pay the charges right away, they will stay on your account as a balance due - even if you end up not attending NMSU.  Once you hit submit, if your plans change, be sure to let us know IN WRITING of the change.
9
Confirmation Page
  • This page confirms that your application was submitted successfully.  It also provides a direct link to the online payment system so your charges can be paid.

  • It’s important to note that you are now considered an active housing applicant.  Charges associated with this application are now your responsibility.  If you change your mind about the services you’ve just applied for, you MUST CANCEL IN WRITING.
10
MyHousing
  • Once you’ve submitted your housing application, your MyHousing account will be activated.  (Please allow 3-5 business days for this to occur.)

  • MyHousing allows you to update your personal preferences, change your living area choices, and select a roommate.

  • From the housing homepage, www.nmsu.edu/~housing, select MyHousing, located under the Current Residents heading.

  • You’ll login to MyHousing using your NMSU username and password.

MyHousing (con’t)
  • Once logged in, your overview page will appear.  This shows your status currently with campus housing.

  • By utilizing the links from the left sidebar, you can update personal preferences,  make changes to your living area choices by using the Room Preferences tab, or select a roommate.  Note: in order to select a roommate, the other student must also be an active housing applicant.
