Eating on Campus

Campus Dining (for more information please click here)

Freshman students living in the Residence Halls are required to purchase a meal plan. For sophomore students and upperclassmen living in the residence halls or apartments, having a meal plan is very convenient.

The Taos Restaurant is the location of daily meal service. This facility is on the lower level of the Corbett Center Student Union. Standard hours of operation for the Taos are Monday through Thursday, 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.; Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.; Saturday, 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Food service in the Taos is continuous during operating hours. Menu offerings will change throughout the day from breakfast items to lunch items to dinner items.

The NMSU Aggie Access ID Card is your meal ticket. As such, be sure to take your ID Card with you each time you visit the dining hall, or intend to use some of your flex money at another campus dining location. It's also extremely important that you safeguard your ID Card with the utmost care. A lost card compromises many things; including your meal plan and flex money. The replacement fee for a lost ID card is $25.00. Replace your card at the ID Card Office, located the third floor of Corbett Center Student Union in room 315.

There are many advantages to participating in a Meal Plan. Besides a significant cost-savings, you'll find a huge variety of nutritious and great-tasting foods without the hassles of shopping, cooking or cleaning up. Enjoy monthly theme buffets that feature entertainment, great food, door prizes and lots of fun! Or come hang out and relax in the Lizard Lounge between classes while watching big screen TV and enjoying a piece of pizza or an ice cream cone! You'll find that the Taos Restaurant is "the place to be" when dining on the NMSU Campus!

Meal Plan Details

The plan that you’ve purchased determines the total number of dining hall visits available to you each semester. On the unlimited plan, Meal Plan A, you may visit the Taos Restaurant as often as you want; there truly is no limit on the number of times you go in each day. On the other two plans, however, there are limits: 225 visits are allowed on Meal Plan B and 150 visits are allowed on Meal Plan C. Whether you visit the Taos Restaurant for a light snack in the middle of the afternoon or a full-blown brunch on Sunday, it counts as one "meal." A balance of available meals shows each time you use your card. Don’t hesitate to ask a cashier for this information periodically. It's always a good idea to keep track of your meal plan usage.

It's important to note that unused meals and flex money balances left over at the end of the semester do NOT carry into the next semester. We think that eating nutritious meals on a regular basis is important to any college student’s health and well being. Because there is no carryover from fall to spring, it's also important to your financial well being to fully utilize your meal program.

The meal plan in place at the end of the fall term is the plan which will continue into the spring. If you're interested in making a plan change for the spring semester, opportunities to do so will be available from the first of November until the first two weeks of meal operation in Spring.

One final note about meal plans: meals are not transferable. The meal plan you've purchased is for your use exclusively. You may purchase meals for guests who accompany you with your flex money, Money$Card or cash. Please do NOT loan your card to a friend to use. Improper use or abuse of the meal plan program may result in disciplinary action.

Special Circumstances

If you subscribe to a particular diet for health-related reasons or because you have a food allergy, Dining Services personnel will make every effort to accommodate your needs. It's important to discuss these needs ahead of time, though. Simply make an appointment with the Dining Services Director by calling 646-4801.

If you need assistance in the dining hall on a permanent basis due to a physical disability, or on a temporary basis due to an injury, please make these arrangements through Dining Services personnel as well.

In today's society, nutritional information on the foods we eat is becoming more and more important to many people. During each meal period, students may select from a wide variety of food options including fresh fruits and vegetables, home-style entrees, made-to-order foods, and beverages. Nutritional information for standard recipes used by Campus Dining Services is available upon request at the Dining Services Office, located in Corbett Student Union Center, Room 130.

Dining Hall Etiquette

When visiting the dining hall or other food service location on campus, we ask that appropriate behavior be demonstrated at all times. Respect for your fellow diners, as well as the facility itself, is paramount in maintaining a quality food service operation. Your assistance in bussing your own table, properly disposing of trash, cleaning up small spills and notifying food service personnel of larger spills, and following the rules of the area are greatly appreciated. The Taos Restaurant is an all-you-can-eat facility. To help control food waste, we ask that only one entrée be taken at a time. You are welcome to return for seconds, thirds, or fourths. But please, take only what you can eat and eat all that you take. Reducing food waste assists in controlling costs. If you experience a problem in the dining hall, please contact a member of the Dining Services staff immediately.

Money$Card

Opening a Money$Card account helps reduce the need to carry cash while on campus. It is accepted all over campus in the bookstore, convenience stores, for laundry, the Frenger Food Court, soft drink & snack vending machines, all dining locations, the Pan Am concessions, Student Health Center and more. Just present your ID card to make a purchase and your account will be debited automatically. This is not a meal plan, but a campus-wide account.

Accounts can be opened at any time and will roll over to the next semester as long as you are enrolled at the university. Refunds are made on request only at the end of the spring semester, at graduation, or at formal withdrawal from New Mexico State University. Balances over the $10 service charge will be refunded by check and mailed within approximately 10 working days.

The account holder is responsible for the security of his/her ID card. If a card is lost or stolen, it should be immediately reported to the ID Card Office where it will be invalidated. If the account holder fails to notify the ID Card Office within two days of learning of the loss or theft, the account holder's potential liability could be as much as $500. ID replacement fee is $25.

Ready to sign up? It's easy. Simply stop by the ID Card Office located on the third floor of the Corbett Center Student Union – Office Hours are Monday – Friday 8:00a.m.-4:30p.m. Checks, cash, VISA, MasterCard, and Discover are accepted. You may add money to your Money$Card account by stopping by the ID Card Office or calling (505) 646-4835 to charge your credit card.
