Important End of Term Information

Residents of Pinon, Garcia, Monagle or Rhodes Garrett Hamiel have signed an agreement for housing which extends for the entire academic year.  Housing in these areas, however, closes during the Winter Break --from Saturday, December 15th, 2012 through Sunday, January 13th, 2013.  Residents need to vacate their rooms during the Winter Break period but DO NOT need to remove their belongings from their rooms.  However, we do ask that residents:

  • Unplug appliances
  • Do a thorough cleaning prior to departure
  • Securely close windows and lock doors
  • Remove everything needed for the winter break period as buildings will be locked and no entry allowed during this time

TO REMAIN IN YOUR SAME SPACE FOR SPRING 2013
As a current resident, your housing agreement provides you with services for the full academic year.  To have everything remain the same from fall to spring, you need not do anything at all.  Your current assignment will continue automatically.  Charges will be assessed to your student account during the spring pre-registration process.

TO MOVE TO A DIFFERENT SPACE
If you're interested in moving to a different space within campus housing for the spring term,  a transfer process will be held right after Thanksgiving break.  Open space for the spring will be offered for transfer on a first-come, first-served basis.  More details will be sent via e-mail before Thanksgiving break.

IF YOU ARE NOT RETURNING TO NMSU FOR SPRING 2013
If you are graduating, going on co-op or Student Exchange, returning to your home school from Student Exchange, or not attending NMSU for the Spring of 2013 for other reasons, it is necessary for you to terminate the spring portion of your housing agreement.  To do this, stop by the Central Housing Office and complete a termination form.  Be sure to bring confirmation of your situation (such as the co-op letter or graduation documentation).  Termination requests for SP13 are being accepted now through the end of the fall term.  An approved spring termination requires move-out at the end of the fall term.

MOVING OUT AT SEMESTER
Because your housing agreement runs until May, moving out at the end of the fall term is not an option for most residents.  If you feel there are extenuating circumstances which would warrant termination of your agreement, stop by the central Housing Office, pick up a copy of our License Agreement Termination Process, and follow the instructions provided.  Submission of a request does not guarantee release from the financial obligations associated with the housing agreement.  Requests are considered on a case-by-case basis.  It is important that you NOT make other housing arrangements until you have been formally released from your current campus housing obligations.  Students who move out without authorization may be held financially responsible for the full term of the agreement. Termination requests are being accepted now through the end of the fall term.

BREAK HOUSING
All residence halls close at noon on Saturday, December 15 for the winter holiday.  If you have no alternative but to stay on campus during this time, you must apply for break housing.  Break housing is very limited and will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis.  To sign up for break housing, visit the central Housing Office.  Break housing residents will be accommodated in one of our south campus housing communities.  The charge for break housing ranges from $17.25 to $19.53 per night depending on where you stay and will be added to your student account.
For more information, e-mail housing@nmsu.edu or contact the central Housing Office at 575-646-3202.
