How much does it cost to live off campus?
Rental rates in the surrounding communities vary, depending on the area and the size of the apartment or house. A one bedroom apartment in Las Cruces costs, on average, $660.00 a month. Two bedroom apartments cost about $824 and three bedroom apartments cost roughly $988. One very important factor to keep in mind is that this cost does NOT include utilities. Basic phone service, gas, electricity, cable and internet cost around $300 a month for a one bedroom apartment. That's almost $1,000 a month in rent and utitlies! Not to mention money spent on furniture or gas driving back and forth from campus. Standard residence hall amenities include high speed data connectivity, enhanced basic cable TV, on-site laundry facilities, on-site recreation areas, on-site parking, and 24-hour staff. Plus, ALL utilities are covered in one convenient bill.
Living on campus is more than just a bargain cost-wise. There is an abundance of national evidence demonstrating that undergraduate students who live on campus exhibit stronger academic performance, forge deeper bonds with their campus communities and report a higher level of satisfaction with their overall collegiate experience than those who live off campus. The residence hall community is designed to provide your student with the right balance of work and play. Quiet hours are established and enforced to allow time for sleep and study. We have an excellent, live-in, trained staff of Community Assistants (CAs), and live-in, professional Resident Directors to assist your student with questions and concerns, to help with difficult situations, or just to be a friend. Your student's CA is a full-time student who has been selected and trained to assist other students with information, help, understanding and friendship. Our facilities are places that can help your student build the necessary connections that will make them successful in life. On campus housing provides all of the right tools to help your student build social connections, increase their knowledge, (both in and out of the classroom) all with comfort and safety features you would want for them.
