Las Cruces Fulbright Conference

"Global Education and Exchange: New Mexico at the Crossroads"

April 16-18, 2011

Join NMSU for the Las Cruces Fulbright Conference which will offer many events including a public forum on "Understanding the Crisis in North Africa and the Middle East." This forum will feature retired U.S. Ambassador Kenton W. Keith, Kebir Ammi, Moroccan writer and Fulbright scholar, and Nader Ayadi, Tunisian graduate student and Fulbright fellow. The conference will also include cultural events, information sessions on the Fulbright Scholars Program, and share other international opportunities such as careers in the U.S. Foreign Service.

    Saturday, April 16th  10:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.   - PUBLIC FORUM: DOWNTOWN LAS CRUCES

    Branigan Cultural Center, 501 North Main Street, Las Cruces, NM - (Please Click Here for Map)

    "Understanding the Crisis in North Africa and the Middle East"

    Scheduled to speak are Kenton W. Keith, a retired U.S. ambassador who served in several countries in the region;

    Kebir Ammi, a Paris-based Moroccan novelist who is currently a Fulbright scholar at the University of New Mexico; and

    Nader Ayadi, an NMSU graduate student from Tunisia whose studies are supported by a Fulbright fellowship.  Ayadi's film "Vive le Cinema,"  which addresses the preservation of movie theaters in Tunisia, will be shown.

    The event is free and open to the public.  Refreshments will be served.  Seating is limited, so anyone interested in attending should contact the NMSU Honors College at 575-646-2005 to find out more and to reserve a space.

    Sunday, April 17th

    Cultural activities in and around Las Cruces for area residents who have held Fulbright fellowhips and current Fulbrighters from other countries currently based at New Mexico institutions.  Please contact Honors College at 575-646-2005 for more information.

    Noon - 1:00 p.m. - "Careers in the U.S. Foreign Service"

    Conroy Honors Center Commons - A panel discussion featuring Ambassador Kenton Keith and Ambassador Delano Lewis, NMSU interim Dean of International and Border Programs.
