Tour of Nombre de Dios Caverns Saturday, April 21st 2007

    The Nombre de Dios Caverns are located north of Chihuahua City and were opened to the public about six years ago after formal expeditions and preparations that began in 1996.  According to the cavern web site they are believed to have begun their formation five million years ago and are composed of salts and minerals that render very interesting formations and colors.  The site’s chambers include the “Tower of Pisa,” the “Palm and the Waterfall,” “The Altar” and many others, each with a unique story and monumental displays. 

    The land that surrounds the Nombre de Dios caverns is a protected natural area in which many wild squirrels and local fauna may be observed.  It is certainly a highlight for ecotourism and the entry fee was of only 40 pesos which equates to a bit less than four dollars.  The tour lasted about one hour and included a bilingual tour guide.  To find more information about this greatly worthwhile location, or to see more pictures, please visit their web site.  The link is featured below:
