Community Outreach

Office of International Programs (OIP) links international students and scholars with the university and the local community to foster understanding among nations and cultures. In addition, OIP also provides speakers and program on international topics.  Programs supported are:

  • Global Awareness Speakers, which feature international guest speakers and/or NMSU faculty/staff who address transnational issues of interest to the community.
  • Globalization Awards, which recognize faculty members, staff, students, and community members who contribute significantly to the internalization of the university.
  • Host Family Program, which provides hospitality for foreign students.
  • World Friends, a local community group that arranges social and cultural activities for foreign students.
  • International Festival, formally known as MiniWorld, an annual international festival open to the public and a special exhibition day open to local school children.  It is offered during the Spring (usually in March).
  • Speaker's Bureau, which provides international students to speak at local schools and organizations.
