Internationalization of NMSU
NMSU’s
internationalization philosophy underscores the international dimension
of the teaching, research and public service mission of the university
by emphasizing that higher education must respond to the challenges of
a world economy and transnational issues.
The Office of the VPROIP advocates and facilitates
programs and services that internationalize the university.
American
Council on Education’s (ACE) Internationalization
Collaborative Initiative
The
Office of VPROIP was asked to apply to become a member of the ACE
International Collaborate, which is comprised of about 45 institutions,
from community colleges to doctoral universities, that share ideas and
help each other further their international agendas.
NMSU was accepted as a member during the fall of 2003.
ACE’s international agenda is to:
1) Serve as a resource on international education for member institutions and other stakeholders,
2) Help U.S. institutions enhance their international activities, dimensions, outlook,
3) Advocate for international education to policy makers and the public, and
4)
Maintain active linkages with associations and
organizations around the world and to promote international
collaboration through meetings and projects with partner organizations.
International
Program’s Advisory Committee
In order to assist NMSU in its effort to internationalize the campus, the Office of the VPROIP established an International Program’s Advisory Committee with representatives from all colleges and key program areas. A current list of all committee members is available. This committee also serves as the NMSU Internationalization Leadership Team, which is required by the ACE Internationalization Collaborative Initiative. The committee meets at least twice a semester to discuss major international issues of interest to the Office of VPROIP, committee members or others on campus and the committee is also expected to serve as advocates for the internationalization of NMSU.
