Dr. Charles Scholz came to NMSU in the Fall of 2002 after having a varied professional career which included high school and college teaching, advertising and public relations work, management and sales. He teaches Introduction to Mass Media Writing and Introduction to Mass Communication. He has also taught Business Writing at Dona Ana Branch Community College. He received his B.S. in Education with a major in Speech and a minor in English in 1966 and his Master of Arts in Theatre in 1969, both from Northern Illinois University. From 1969 to 1990 he was an Assistant Professor of Broadcasting and the founding Coordinator of the Broadcasting Division in the Communication Department at the University of Northern Iowa. At UNI he taught film production, advertising copy writing, script writing, television performance and directed the internship program. During this time he co-authored a successful filmmaking text entitled Super 8 Handbook which sold 12,000 copies in two editions. Scholz also began to do media consulting for politicians, unions and non-profit organizations which led to the formation of Campaign Consulting Associates, a public relations firm he founded and managed for ten years. In 1990 he left Northern Iowa and went to the University of Delaware as a Research Fellow in the College of Urban Affairs and Public Policy. He earned his Ph.D. from Delaware in 1997. Before returning to teaching, Scholz worked in sales, for a software company as their quality manager, did fundraising work for non-profit organizations and managed rental properties. |
