How To Obtain a Double Major In Spanish

Students who are completing a different major in a different department can double major in Foreign Languages (with an option in Spanish).  Double major students are required to complete 24 SPAN credits in courses numbered 300 or above.

Requirements:
*SPAN 312 Grammar for Native Speakers or SPAN 313 Spanish Grammar
*SPAN 314 Spanish Composition or SPAN 315 Composition for Native Speakers
*SPAN electives sufficient to bring total SPAN credits to 24.
Please note that SPAN 364V and SPAN 365V will NOT count towards major.      

(Total number of credit hours required for graduation: 128)

 

How To Obtain a Single Major In Spanish

Students who are only pursuing a major in Foreign Languages (with an option in Spanish) are considered single major students.  Single major students are required to complete 24 credits in SPAN courses numbered 300 or above.  In addition, single major students also have a linguistics requirement and a second language requirement.

Requirements:
*LING 200G
*Second Language Requirement:  (ARAB 212, CHIN 212, FREN 212, GER 212, JPNS 212, LAT 212, or PORT 214)
*SPAN 312 Grammar for Native Speakers or SPAN 313 Spanish Grammar
*SPAN 314 Spanish Composition or SPAN 315 Composition for Native Speakers
*SPAN electives sufficient to bring total SPAN credits to 24.
Please note that SPAN 364V and SPAN 365V will NOT count towards major.

How To Obtain a Minor In Spanish

Students can add a minor in Spanish to their current major(s). Students who wish to minor in Spanish are required to complete at least 18 SPAN credits (a maximum of 6 SPAN credits are allowed in the 200 level).

Requirements:
*SPAN 312 Grammar for Native Speakers or SPAN 313 Spanish Grammar
*SPAN 314 Spanish Composition or SPAN 315 Composition for Native Speakers
*SPAN electives sufficient to bring total SPAN credits to 18.  A maximum of 6 SPAN credits at the 200 level may be used to bring the total number of SPAN credits to 18.
Please note that SPAN 364V and SPAN 365V will NOT count towards minor.
