Mesilla Jewelry Shop Participates in Artshop Celebrations

Story and Photo by Megan Gordon

Julienne’s Jewelry on the Plaza in Mesilla participated in the 12th annual Artshop last Friday. The shop features over twenty artists from the Southwest, including the work of owner Julienne Hadfield.

“Art education is a great way to give back to the community,” said Hadfield.

Refreshments were provided by Blue Teal Winery, also of the Mesilla area, and the Santa Fe Grill. Visitors of the gallery were entered in a drawing to win a $100 gift certificate to Julienne’s Jewelry.

The Artshop has a tradition of introducing new artists to the Mesilla Valley. Julienne’s featured artist of the evening was Anton Bodar. Recently featured in local publication “The Ink,” Bodar made his first appearance at the Artshop, demonstrating the art of blown glass jewelry.

Bodar said he has been working with glass for over a year now, making rings, bracelets, pendants, and marbles. The vibrant colors and unique designs of his work present a very contemporary approach to wearable art. He also uses a technique called wire wrapping to create his jewelry.

Bodar’s work and many others may be viewed at Julienne’s Jewelry in Mesilla.
