Records are meant to be broken. A record of 13 consecutive losses is one begging not only to be broken, but shattered, forgotten and put to pasture. Much as continuous rain has ended dry spells here in the southwest, the NM State Aggie football team ended their drought with a 30-15 win over Southeastern Louisiana Thursday night.

Playing against a team he used to coach, Hal Mumme showed the Aggs can win games. The players do look good, and they connected with their plays.

Sophomore quarterback Chase Holbrook threw for 381 yards in his Aggie debut. Running back Justin burries rushed 107 yards in the season opener.

Wide receiver Chris Williams grabbed a 37-yard bomb and took it in for a touchdown in one of the more picture perfect plays of the game. The play put the Aggies up 14-0 over the Lions and they held on to the lead until the end.

The team does show a good deal more promise than last season, but the catch-22 of Thursday's victory is Southeastern Louisiana is a division below what the Aggies play.

Its going to be interesting to see how the Aggies fare against the UNM Lobos for their next game. The rivalry has always provided some good football and a valuable barometer for the team's preformance under pressure.
