Enjoy the combined talents of NMSU Symphonic Winds and Jazz Ensembles for a lively kickoff to the 2005-2006 concert season. NMSU Symphonic Winds and Jazz Ensembles present a tribute to patrons who have established scholarships for band students. All proceeds from the concert will be distributed to the endowed wind and percussion accounts held in the Foundation Office at New Mexico State University.
Hey!Symphonic Winds at the Onate Performing Arts Center, at Onate High School

This Wednesday evening concert will grab your attention and not let go! The program begins with a new work by Timothy Mahr entitled "Hey" and includes the new sounds of Steven Bryant that will the Performing Arts Center with "Bloom" and "Alchemy in Silent Spaces." This new and interesting program is sure to entertain.
Guest Artist ConcertGuest: John Holt, Trumpet

The beautiful trumpet sounds of guest artist John Holt ring through the Music Center Auditorium in a performance of Eric Ewazen's "Concerto for Trumpet and Wind Ensemble." Mr. Holt is currently principal trumpet of the Dalla Opera Orchestra and renowned recording artist. This Saturday evening concert is also a special presentation for the students who are on the New Mexico State University campus participating in the American Southwest Honor Band.

New music written for bands during the last five years will be the primary focus for an exciting performance by Symphonic Winds. David Maslanka's Seventh Symphony, a new work, will highlight the evening's concert. In addition, Symphonic Winds welcomes two outstanding high school bands to the NMSU Recital Hall. Mayfield High School from Las Cruces and Coronado High School from El Paso will present the first half of the program in what is sure to be a fun night of concert band music.

This concert features the talents of the New Mexico State University Symphonic Band. The music selection will remind the audience of the old outdoor band concert on the town square. This foot-tapping concert will have you clapping and singing to the very end.

Student Solo Competition Winner
Sunday, April 23, 3:00 pm
Symphonic Winds and Symphonic Band will conclude the Power of Wind season with the ever-popular Finale Concert. In addition to the traditional presentation of great band music by each group, the 2006 collegiate student solo competition winner will perform a solo with "Winds." The winner of this competition is selected from undergraduate wind and percussion students at New Mexico State University.
