Jerry Ann Alt--director of choirs
Choral Department WebsiteDr. Jerry Ann Alt is Director of Choirs and Professor of Music at New Mexico State University where she conducts three choirs and teaches undergraduate and graduate conducting. She regularly conducts large scale choral works with the Las Cruces University Singers and opera with the Dona Ana Lyric Opera. In May 1998, New Mexico State University Singers performed a highly successful tour of Italy which included performances at the Vatican and the major cathedrals of Florence and Siena. In May 1995, University Singers sang a choral service in Westminster Abbey. Other international performances include the Josquin "Missa Pange Lingua" at St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna, Austria, and the Mozart "Solemn Vespers" at the Cathedral of Siquenza in Spain.
Dr. Alt debuted at Carnegie Hall in 1990 with a 200 voice all New Mexico high school choir. Under her direction, University Singers has performed three consecutive regional conventions of the American Choral Directors in Denver, Dallas, and Corpus Christi.
A compact disc featuring the music of Josquin and Brahms recorded during a 1992 performance at Christkirche Munchen am Dom-Pedro-Platz in Munich, Germany is available.
Dr. Alt received the Doctorate of Choral Music from Arizona State University where she studied with Douglas McEwen. She received the Masters of Music Education from Louisiana State University and the Bachelor of Music Education from Loyola University in New Orleans. Prior to her work at NMSU, Dr. Alt taught at Delta State University in Cleveland, Mississippi for three years and in high schools in Louisiana for eight years. She is a life member of ACDA.
