Janet Loman teaches organ, harpsichord and core music classes at New Mexico State University. She holds a Bachelor of Music degree in organ performance from New Mexico State University. Her Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees are from Arizona State University, where she studied organ with Robert Clark and harpsichord with John Metz. In addition, she has studied early music performance practice with Harald Vogel at the North German Organ Academy and is most interested in this aspect of performance. She has taken several historical organ tours of Europe; a product of one research trip is the Paul Fritts organ in the ASU Organ Hall. Her DMA research paper is titled "Case Studies of Organists Diagnosed with Overuse Injuries."

Dr. Loman is active as a recitalist in the southwest, having performed as soloist with the El Paso Symphony as well as premiered several works by composers Normand Lockwood and Warner Hutchison. She also performs with the Las Cruces Symphony, and especially enjoys collaborative recitals. Dr. Loman has performed on cathedral organs in Florence, Siena, and Rome (St. Peter’s Basilica) during a concert tour of Italy with the NMSU University Singers. In August 2002, she returned to Germany to spend four days studying the recently restored Hildebrandt organ of 1746 in Naumburg, the last organ associated with J. S. Bach.

A professional church musician for over 20 years, Dr. Loman is President of Presbyterian Association of Musicians, an organization whose mission is involved in the education and professional concerns of church musicians. She has served as a performer and faculty member at several PAM conferences. She also serves as the Presbyterian liaison to the national board of the Leadership Program for Musicians.

Dr. Loman’s career also has included service to the New Mexico Arts Division, National Endowment for the Arts; and as a member of Music Teachers National Association, she has judged local and regional competitions. She is a member of the American Guild of Organists and has a special interest in introducing young students to the organ.
