Lonnie Klein--orchestra

From his inaugural concert in October 1999, Maestro Lonnie Klein has led the LCSO to new levels of artistic excellence, with high audience acclaim, rave performances, and six consecutive seasons of sold out concerts! Patrons have called his performances with the LCSO "magical," "nourishment for my soul," "wonderful youthful energy and musical beauty. . . . we love our orchestra." James Houlik, renowned saxophonist, described Lonnie's energy and vision as "a one man ant hill!"

In May 2003, Lonnie made his Italian debut, conducting the Milano Classical Chamber Orchestra. The success of that performance led to a February, 2004 invitation to conduct the Orchestra Sinfonica Della Provincia in Bari, Italy. The La Gazzetta Del Mezzogiorno said of his Bari performance: "Klein brought Bernstein's music to life. . . , the orchestra served him magnificently. . . . Klein molded the sound of the orchestra giving the music vitality without getting carried away and he remained true to Bernstein's interpretation." Other engagements last season included conducting the Cukurova Devlet Senfona Orkestra in Adana, Turkey. Upon his return, he was engaged to conduct another program in Adana in March 2005. Concerts this season (2005 – 2006) include conducting The Soloists of Perugia in Italy; the Kentucky All-States Orchestra; and a return engagement to Traverse Symphony (Michigan) in December to conduct their holidays pops programs. Having held a similar post at the University of Evansville for ten years, this dynamic young American conductor enjoys a distinguished career as conductor, music director, orchestra builder and educator.

Because of Maestro Klein's vision, the LCSO has expanded its programs, greatly enhancing the cultural scene in Las Cruces. Twenty thousand children will benefit from LCSO Educational Outreach Programs this year. He has also added special performance venues, including an orchestral tour of southern New Mexico, a chamber music concert, a free July 4th concert in the park, a "Celebrating the American Spirit" concert with Sandi Patty, Lee Greenwood and Daniel Rodriguez, and two performances with the popular "Mariachi Cobre."

Klein holds a Doctorate in Performance from the University of Illinois, a Master of Music degree from Michigan State University, and a Bachelor's from Murray State University. In 2001, he was the recipient of the Dona Ana Arts Council Newcomer's Award.
