Monty Hill/Assistant Director of Bands

Monty Hill is currently the Assistant Director of Bands at New Mexico State University. This appointment includes serving as the director of the “Pride of New Mexico” Marching Band, conducting the Symphonic Band, and directing the Road Runner Revue Basketball Band. Prior to coming to New Mexico State, Mr. Hill has held positions as Director of Bands in the Lake Hamilton Public Schools, Greenwood Public Schools, El Dorado Public Schools, and Warren Public Schools all in Arkansas. He also served as Assistant Director of Bands at Onate High in Las Cruces, sNM. During his nine year tenure at Lake Hamilton the band program double in size and was known across the Mid-South as a consistent winner of marching, concert, and jazz competitions.
Mr. Hill holds a Bachelor of Music Education Degree from Henderson State University and a Masters in Music Performance with an emphasis in conducting from New Mexico State University. He has continued post graduate study in conducting at the University of Southern Mississippi and is currently in a doctoral program at Boston University. Hill has studied conducting with Dr. William Clark and Mr. Wendell Evanson.
Mr. Hill maintains a very active schedule as a clinician and adjudicator across the South serving in the states of Arkansas, Mississippi, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Kentucky, Tennessee, Texas and New Mexico. In 2005 the Lake Hamilton High School Band under his direction was invited to perform at the American School Band Directors’ Association.
As a woodwind artist, Mr. Hill has performed professionally with Charo, Mary Wilson and the New Supremes, Barbara Eden, Jim Nabors, Bobby Riddell, Phyllis Dillard, Patti Page, and Michael Martin Murphy. His professional affiliations include Phi Beta Mu, American School Bandmasters’ Association, Phi Mu Alpha, College Band Directors National Association, and the National Band Association.
Monty is married to his wife Valerie of 21 years and they have two children, Kristen age 20 and Nathaniel age 14.
