Michael Staehle--cello/composition

Michael Staehle-Laburda (Ph.D.) is currently serving as Associate Professor of Music teaching Cello, Stringbass, Composition, Counterpoint, and Electronic Music. He holds a Bachelors degree from the Richard Strauss Conservatory in Munich (Germany), a Masters degree from the University of Southern California at Los Angeles (USC) and a Ph.D. from the University of California at San Diego (UCSD). Before coming to Las Cruces, he was first chair-solo cellist with the Opera de la Monnaie, Brussels, Belgium. He also was first chair cellist with the San Diego Chamber Orchestra and performed with the San Diego Symphony. His compositions have been featured with the Composers Symposium and the New Music Ensemble of Denton (North Texas University). In 1993, he was awarded the coveted first prize for the Young Artist Composers Competition, New York.
