Nancy Joy -- horn
njoy@nmsu.eduNancy Joy received a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Wittenburg University School of Music in Springfield, Ohio, and then completed a Master of Music in horn performance at New Mexico State University. Nancy is currently in her eleventh year as Horn Professor at New Mexico State University.
In her first year at NMSU, Nancy created a new Horn Choir, called the “NMSU Corno Crew” which is very active in premiering new works and has led to several invitations as a premiere performing ensemble at the International Horn Society (IHS) Symposiums in 1999 in Athens, GA., and the IHS 2000 Symposium in Beijing, China. Most recently, the NMSU Horn Choir performed at the IHS Symposium in Tuscaloosa, Alabama in June 2005 and will be a featured ensemble at IHS 2008 in Denver, Colorado.
Nancy is Principal Horn of the Las Cruces Symphony at NMSU, and Second Horn of the El Paso Symphony Orchestra, and the El Paso Opera Company and the Orqesta Sinfonica de Ciudad Juarez in Juarez, Mexico. She regularly performs chamber music with the Faculty Brass and Woodwind Quintets and freelances in the Southwest. Recent solo performances for Nancy include the NMSU University Singers and Masterworks Chorus, Mayfield High School Band and Orchestra, Mesilla Valley Concert Band and the Ohio Lyric Theater Chorus in Springfield, Ohio and recent New Mexico Music Educators Association All-State Music Festivals. Nancy has performed solos at the Western United States Horn Symposium (WUSHS) in Las Vegas and premiered a 5-movement work for horn and piano by Paul Basler at WUSHS on October 27, 2006. Nancy has also appeared as a guest artist at the International Horn Symposiums in Rochester, NY; Kansas City, MO.; Tuscaloosa, AL.; and in Capetown, South Africa. In the summer of 2007, she returned to South Africa and performed concerts, clinic and master classes for 4 weeks at several universities and participated in the outreach programs for disadvantaged youth.
Ms.Joy was elected from the IHS membership as a member of the Advisory Council and is serving her second term of office. She is currently the International Workshop Coordinator and Co-chair of the IHS Scholarship Committee. Nancy is also on the board of directors for the Interactive Video Audition Service International (IVASI) and presents clinics and demonstrations internationally for this company. Nancy has presented Breathing Gym Clinics in Germany, South Africa, Colombia and all over the USA.
