| As this is
written, on the Ides of March, 1998, Muzine
is eight-and-a-half months old and
embarking on a third issue. According to
the automatic monthly counter on our web
server, Muzine
has recorded 3466 'hits', including this
past February's 557--our best month to
date. These figures aren't sensational
compared to leading web sites, but we're
not just talking to ourselves, either. A
couple of new pages were added last time,
and in this issue we introduce two more,
as noted below: First, we extend
a warm welcome to Margaret Brandman,
well-known music educator, performer,
writer and lecturer from Australia, who
has generously contributed Reading
Music: An Easier Way, a valuable
essay that addresses the trials and
struggles of learning to read notes at
the keyboard. An extensive interview with
Margaret may be found in The Piano
Education Page, and Muzine
readers will be
hearing from her again.

Second,
a new music appreciation series, with
MIDI sound illustrations, debuts on the
page called The Nuts and
Bolts. The
basic elements of music, beginning with rhythm,
will be examined here.
I
also welcome my daughter, Caroline
Leland, M.M., violist and music educator
of Scottsdale, AZ, who continues our Beginning
Music Study series with some
hints on string playing. A new Profile
page will be added soon, as well.
And,
once more, we wish to thank those of you
who have sent your valuable comments,
suggestions and appreciation. We want to
make Muzine
a little better each time, and your help
is indispensable. Reader input is found
on Your Turn.
We
appreciate your visit; please come again!
