Presentations on the events and discussions at the Border Social Forum/Foro Social Fronterizo.

Thursday November 2, 6 pm : DIA DE LOS MUERTOS/DAY OF THE DEAD
traditional Mexican commemoration of loved ones with ofrendas , food, music and poetry readings.

Wednesday November 29, 6 pm : BORDER TEACHERS NETWORK: ENHANCING CROSS-CULTURAL EDUCATION IN THE US - MEXICO BORDERLANDS
Presentation of new immersion program to promote teachers' knowledge of border issues, including immigration, health, development and education. Organized in collaboration with the NMSU Border Research Cluster.

Friday December 15, 5 pm : End of semester party, with live music and refreshments

Spanish Lunch :
Starting Friday September 15. Every Friday, 12 noon - 1 pm, come and practice your Spanish in an informal, relaxed setting. All levels welcome.

Bring brown-bag lunch. We provide soft drinks, tea, coffee and water.

Latin American Film Series
Organized by SALAS (Student Association for Latin American Studies at NMSU)

September 27 and every second Wednesday until November 8, 4 pm
Films to be announced for 9/27, 10/11, 10/25, 11/8 and11/29 (not 11/22).

SALAS will also hold its regular meetings at 3 pm on each of these days.
All students are welcome to participate in SALAS

LIB 301: Latin America & the Border--Online & Print Resources

2.0 Credits; class meets first 8 weeks of Fall 2006, August 28-October 11 Monday-Wednesday 4:00 pm-5:40 pm, Zuhl Library 123

Students in LIB 301 will learn to mine databases and reference works for information on Latin America and the U.S.-Mexico Border, including these major online tools:
* PRISMA database for full text journal articles in Latin American studies
* Hispanic American Periodicals Index (HAPI)
* Handbook of Latin American Studies
* INFORME!
* Columbia International Affairs Online (CIAO)
* Latin America Data Base (LADB)
* Chihuahua News Database

Internet guides and data sources such as:

-- Internet Resources for Latin America (LAGUIA)
-- Latin American Government Documents Archive
-- Latin American Election Statistics

Students will also explore general and subject databases such as Lexis-Nexis Academic Universe, Anthropology Plus, Business Source Premiere, GEOBASE and many more, for research information on Latin American and Border topics.
