Congratulations!
School of Nursing Promotion and Tenure Spring 2008 Group
(from L to R): Dr. Wanda Borges, Dr. Leslie Robbins, and Dr. Mary Sizemore on their promotion to Associate Professor (effective August 2008)

Welcome to the School of Nursing at New Mexico State University. Our dynamic BSN and MSN Programs provide a wide variety of options for the beginning and advanced nursing student. Over the past 5 years, student enrollment has grown from 199 students to over 300 students. Our geographical location along the United States Mexico Border and our diverse student population provides all students with outstanding clinical experiences-acute care and community based.

Within the BSN Program are 4 options: 4 year pre-licensure BSN, 2nd degree accelerated BSN, the RN to BSN option, and the new Pathways Option. Within our MSN program are 4 specialty tracks: Medical Surgical Clinical Nurse Specialist, Community Health Nursing Clinical Specialist, Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner/Clinical Nurse Specialist, and Nursing Administration.

Within the BSN Program are 3 options: 4 year pre-licensure BSN, 2nd degree accelerated BSN, and RN to BSN. Within our MSN program are 4 specialty tracks: Medical Surgical Clinical Nurse Specialist, Community Health Nursing Clinical Specialist, Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner/Clinical Nurse Specialist, and Nursing Administration.

The use of educational technologies is evident in all programs with the RN to BSN option available via interactive television and webct to students in Alamogordo, Carlsbad, and Las Cruces. The psychiatric-mental health MSN track uses short on campus periods at the start of each semester along with webct, and local practicum sites to make this education available across the region.

Our National Institute for Nursing Research, National Institutes of Health Southwest Partnership Center for Nursing Health Disparities Research (SWPC) provides a focal point for our research endeavors. This center which is operated in partnership with The University of Texas- Austin School of Nursing provides funds to support faculty and student research mentoring and pilot research studies.

In support of our local communities, many faculty and students are involved in community service.
