| Qualifications: | MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS-
- Ph.D. (in hand by hire date) in Range Science or closely related discipline with an extensive knowledge of grazing and vegetation management. - Demonstrated ability to communicate verbally and in writing to a diverse clientele, including ranchers, governmental agencies, youth, conservation groups and other users of rangeland resources. - Potential for excellence in extension, outreach and obtaining extramural funding. - Ability to work collaboratively with county extension faculty, extension specialists and fellow scientists. - Ability and willingness to travel extensively throughout New Mexico to conduct extension educational programs, often in remote locations. - Knowledge of New Mexico’s rangelands, other natural resources, its people, and culture. - Experience in working in Cooperative Extension and the Land Grant University System is preferred. | |||||
| Examples of Duties: | DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES-
• The Extension Range Management Specialist is a faculty member of the Extension Animal Sciences and Natural Resources Department and conducts Extension educational programs in range resource management in collaboration with county extension faculty and other state extension specialists. • The Extension Range Management Specialist also serves as a member of the Range Improvement Task Force (RITF). The RITF is an inter-disciplinary team of natural resource faculty and animal scientists which has a reputation for bringing sound science to the people of New Mexico to solve natural resource challenges and develop sound management alternatives. • Candidate must be able to work in politically sensitive situations with the range livestock industry and government land management agencies. • A high level of collegiality and a desire to work with other specialists and scientists in an interdisciplinary effort is required. • Other responsibilities as agreed to with the department head of Extension Animal Sciences and Natural Resources. | |||||
