| Qualifications: | MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS-
Ph.D. (in hand by hire date) in Animal Science or closely related field. Emphasis in ruminant nutrition preferred. Post graduate experience in conducting research with growing/finishing beef cattle is essential. Knowledge of feed milling, diet formulation and management practices for growing/finishing beef cattle. Proven record of publication in peer-reviewed journals and a record of attracting extramural funding for beef cattle research preferred. Experience in day-to-day management of research and cattle feeding facilities. | |||||
| Examples of Duties: | DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES-
Provide leadership for research in beef cattle health, nutrition, and management, and collaborate with faculty in the Animal and Range Sciences department, other departments and Agriculture Science Centers. Research areas will include- effects of nutrition and management on morbidity and mortality in newly weaned cattle and/or lightweight cattle subjected to marketing and transportation stress; effects of nutrition and management on post-weaning growth of beef cattle; integrate objectives with other off campus research centers investigating pre-feedlot management on subsequent growth; cooperative research with the local livestock community and other agencies addressing problems such as locoweed toxicity and others. As superintendent, reports directly to the Associate Dean and Director of the Agricultural Experiment Station regarding budgets, inventory and facilities. As a faculty member in the Animal and Range Sciences Department and the Extension Animal Sciences and Natural Resources Department, reports to the respective department heads for research and extension programs. Actively pursue extramural funding and coordinate with the office of grants and contracts. Work closely with a local advisory committee and assume an active role in the community, effectively sharing results of the research program with the livestock industry in the area. | |||||
